President Paul Biya and wife, Chantal left Buea for Yaoundé
on board the Presidential Helicopter at about 1:27 pm on Saturday, February 22
at the end of a five-day official visit to Buea during which he chaired
activities to mark the 50th anniversary of reunification.
After five days of communion with the nation and the
population of the South West Region, President Biya granted audiences to the
representatives of the various segments of the population, among them the Mayor
of Buea, CPDM elite of the South West, the 10 senators and 15 members of
parliament of the South West, Traditional Leaders of the South West and
Administrative officials.
Buea Mayor, Ekema Patrick Esunge and President Biya
discussed on the future of Buea and the need for the newly realised infrastructure
to be preserved.
The CPDM delegation that also comprised the elite of
the region, headed by CPDM political bureau member, John Ebong Ngolle received
thanks from the President for the mobilisation. The 29-man delegation left satisfied
that indeed, the Head of State has kept to his promise.
The Members of Parliament and Senators, including
the SDF MP for Kumba Centre, headed by the Vice President of the National Assembly,
Hon. Monjoa Lifaka Emilia were also received by President Biya.
The traditional rulers were followed by Governor
Okalia Bilai and the six Senior Divisional Officers of the South West.
The President arrived Buea on Tuesday, February 18
through the Tiko Airport. He inaugurated the monument for the 50th
anniversaries of independence and reunification on Wednesday, February 19,
before presiding at the grand ceremony for the reunification golden jubilee on
February 20 at the Buea Bongo Square.
As President Biya left Buea for Yaoundé, the
population expect him to attend to the problem of roads plaguing the region,
among others.
