The insurgents attacked the Bonderie Gendarme Post, Thursday, July 10, at midnight firing bullets and rockets. Bonderie is a locality in the Mayo-Sava Division of the Far North Region of Cameroon, about 5km away from the border with Nigeria.

State Media in Cameroon reported that “the walls of the Gendarme Post were perforated, bullet shells shattered everywhere on the ground, offices ransacked and blood coagulated on grass”, a description which is telling of the magnitude of the attack.

The national Broadcaster reported that the militants made away with one gendarme vehicle, three motorbikes, one gun and ammunition.

The heavy gun battle left one gendarme injured, adding to two the number of injured gendarmes. The other was injured, Tuesday, July 8 after Boko Haram attacked a Gendarme Post in the locality of Vina in the Logon and Shari Division of the Far North Region of Cameroon.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in the Boko Haram camp after Thursday’s attack. But it is suspected that several Boko Haram members were killed in the gun battle that lasted for over 30 minutes.

Given quantity of blood that coagulated on the grass at the esplanade of the Gendarme Post, one could conclude that the Boko Haram suffered a great human loss. Boko Haram, it should be noted, carries away its deaths after each attack.

Police could not immediately be reached for comment.
