This
was one of the resolutions taken during a strategic
meeting for “The Prioritization on Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health
Rights in the Post2015 Deliberations”.
Meeting in Buea, June 10, 22 youth leaders and rights advocates
called on government to
ensure that “our women and youths live a
fulfilling and improved life, that respect the full realisation
of their human rights, dignity and integrity”.
The
22 youth leaders and activists representing 10 youth-led organizations across
the country were convened for an Experts Strategic Meeting on “The prioritization
on Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in the Post2015 Deliberations”
by the Women For A Change, (WFAC) Cameroon.
Participants
at the meeting have all been actively engaged in the Post-2015 process for over
14 months.
A press release after the strategic meeting states that "...Today,
Women for a Change (WFAC) Buea in collaboration with like-minded youth organisations
involved in the UN Post-2015 Discourses organized a consultative advocacy
workshop aimed at lobbying for the prioritization of specific youth and women
issues by the Cameroon government during Post-2015 intergovernmental
negotiation meetings..."
"...The discussions involved developing ideas, brainstorming
and building strategies on how to engage and gain the government’s support in
promoting strong language around youth priorities and the dissemination of
information on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), SRH education and services
for young people and adolescents with respect to their human rights.”
“Acknowledging
the government’s endeavor and interest demonstrated during the last Commission
on Population and Development towards advancing development aspects and global
sustainable partnership into post2015 negotiations, as youth leaders, we
understand and believe wholeheartedly that global development and sustainable
partnership cant be realised if young people issues, particularly women
and girls health and wellbeing remain unaddressed; universal access to
comprehensive, youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health information, education,
and services are absent,” the release further states.
Zoneziwoh Mbondgulo, Founder & Executive Director
of WFAC Cameroon said “…as grassroots youth and women’s right activists, we
have a chance now to add our voice to the global call on the future we want. We
need to engage the government and ensure they commit in prioritizing youth’s
issues and the full realization of their sexual and reproductive health rights,
dignity and integrity”.
The
WFAC advocacy stands on the belief that investment made now on youth and women
health will create lasting progress in the attainment of Cameroon’s Vision2035.
